Welltory Review: Does the HRV App Actually Help?

Summary at a glance

Welltory Premium is $99 a year on welltory.com, with a $599 lifetime tier on the website that the App Store lists at $299.99.

Welltory says its monthly plan is archived and web-only, and buyers report no monthly option appearing at checkout, so the annual is the practical choice.

The praise concentrates on one thing: a usable daily HRV reading from a phone camera, with no wearable to buy.

The loudest complaints are stress and energy scores that never move, upgrade ads shown to paying subscribers, and cancellation friction on web-bought plans.

No independent professional review of Welltory exists, so this article aggregates public user sentiment collected in July 2026 rather than first-hand testing.

This review aggregates publicly available user reviews from Trustpilot, the Apple App Store, Google Play, Reddit, Product Hunt and YouTube. We have not used Welltory first-hand, and nothing here is a test result. Heart rate variability, stress and sleep readings from a consumer app are not diagnostic, and arrhythmias, beta blockers and other medications can distort them. Talk with a licensed clinician before acting on any reading or changing medication, and do not use an app score to rule out symptoms that worry you. Pricing and plan availability were checked on 29 July 2026 and may change.

Is Welltory Worth It?

Welltory is worth it if you want a daily heart-rate-variability reading from your phone camera and nothing more elaborate. Aggregated user reviews say the measurement is sound and the interpretation stacked on top of it often is not. Premium runs about $99 a year. We have not used it first-hand.

That split runs through every channel we read.

People who treat it as a plain HRV meter tend to stay. People who buy it for the daily Stress and Energy scores leave angry. Billing complaints sit on top of both groups, and they are worth reading before you subscribe.

People who want a daily HRV number without buying a chest strap or a watch, and who are happy reading the raw data themselves.

Welltory Premium — Annual (about $99/yr)

Aggregated reviews rate the camera-based HRV measurement highly and the daily Stress, Energy and Health scores poorly. Cancellation and auto-renewal complaints are frequent enough to plan around before you subscribe.

What is Welltory?

Welltory is an HRV app for iPhone and Android. You hold a finger over the camera lens with the flash on, and it reads your pulse from the light through your skin. An Apple Watch, a Samsung Watch or a Bluetooth chest strap works too. Wrist bands like Fitbit and Withings are not accepted.

One thing to know before you buy: Welltory does not record your sleep itself.

Free gives you one measurement a day and 5 of the 21 metrics, and clears anything older than 30 days. Premium lifts the cap and adds sleep and blood pressure analysis, reading whatever your watch wrote into Apple Health.

How much does Welltory cost?

Premium is $99 a year on welltory.com, which the site frames as $8.25 a month. A $599 lifetime option sits alongside it, listed at $299.99 in the App Store, so the price depends on where you buy.

The monthly plan is the question most people arrive with. Welltory's own position, posted in November 2025, is that "the actual monthly plan has been archived and is now only available through our website" reddit.com. A reply on its YouTube channel describes the same phase-out from the mobile stores. Monthly-priced in-app options were still visible on the US and UK App Store on 29 July 2026.

What buyers describe is simpler. No monthly option shows up at checkout, so the annual is the choice on offer apps.apple.com.

Plan on roughly $99 a year.

Long-term users think that is steep. One puts it at "a hundred dollars a year for an app that's worth, at best, maybe 20$" reddit.com.

Refunds on the annual plan are full only within 14 days of your first payment. Reviewers report auto-renewal charges arriving with no advance notice, so set your own reminder before the year is up.

What do users like about Welltory?

No wearable, no chest strap, just a finger held over the camera lens. One user describes reaching 83ms in the morning after months of learning to rest properly reddit.com.

People managing POTS, long COVID and heart-attack recovery describe bringing Welltory trends into appointments trustpilot.com. That clinical use draws the warmest reviews in the corpus. One says it produces data sheets showing the energy peaks and troughs of chronic illness. Another got a faster echocardiogram after flagging a downward drift.

A second group watches the Health score for early warning. They report it dropping a day or two before they get sick.

The free tier is real, which is rarer than it sounds.

In a 2024 thread, a self-identified biomedical engineer called the raw numbers good enough for research and the interpretation the confusing part.

What are the most common Welltory complaints?

Scores that never move

Nothing you do moves the scores.

Users report 99% stress and 100% health on the same day reddit.com. In a March 2025 thread, one subscriber logged four readings inside four hours at a desk. They ran 96%, 72%, 80% and 95% reddit.com. Anyone running a chest strap and a second HRV app says those agree, and Welltory does not.

Ads after payment, and cancelling

"EVERY SINGLE TIME I open it I have to first see an ad for the lifetime upgrade," one Google Play reviewer writes play.google.com. That is the advertising you get once you have paid, and it fills one-star and four-star reviews alike.

Then you try to cancel. Users describe a page with no cancel button, no phone number, and support running through an in-app form.

Two things cut the other way. People who bought through Apple say cancelling took no effort. Welltory has also conceded that a missing cancel button usually means the subscription is already off reddit.com.

Sleep, Android and anxiety

On Trustpilot, sleep draws more complaints than any other feature, including nights that produce no reading at all trustpilot.com. A Google Play reviewer in July 2026 says the first half of the night is erased. Broken Health Connect syncing and overheating phones fill the Android reviews.

If you are already stressed and unwell, a permanently red dashboard is its own stressor. That is a harm, not a bug.

If you take a beta blocker or have an arrhythmia, HRV readings can be distorted. Welltory has no way to log medication, and reviewers describe being flagged as permanently stressed because of it.

Who should use Welltory?

Welltory fits you if you already know roughly what HRV is and want a cheap way to watch yours daily. It also fits people with a chronic condition who want trend charts for an appointment.

It does not fit you if you want the app to tell you what to do.

"This app has a lot of information, I just don't know what to do with it" is the archetypal three-star review apps.apple.com. Long-term users say the same in gentler words. It suits people who already understand heart-rate variability. That is a small audience for a $99 subscription.

Skip it if you are on Android and lean on Health Connect or a Pixel Watch, or if a daily red number would feed your anxiety rather than settle it.

Apple Watch owners in a 2025 thread called the body-battery framing overly reductionist reddit.com. If symptom logging matters more, Bearable or Human will suit you better.

How we researched this review

We did not test Welltory first-hand. This review aggregates public user sentiment collected on 29 July 2026 — roughly 644 user opinions across six source types.

60 Trustpilot reviews from February to July 2026 (site-wide 3.5 out of 5 across 245) The 50 newest written App Store reviews and the 200 newest English Google Play reviews 18 Reddit threads read in full with all 387 comments, plus 12 Product Hunt reviews

Two gaps we could not fill. The UK App Store listing returns no written reviews, so no British sentiment appears here. There is also no arms-length professional review of Welltory on Google's first page. Both long-form "reviews" that rank are published by competing health apps as marketing.

That absence is why user voices carry the weight here.

We discounted the headline star ratings. The App Store shows 4.7 from 131,000 ratings, while 19 of its 50 newest written reviews are one-star. Most Reddit material sits in Welltory's own forum, where staff reply constantly, and those replies count as the company's position rather than user sentiment.

No independent professional review of Welltory exists. Both long-form reviews ranking on Google's first page are published by rival health apps as marketing.

Common questions about Welltory

How much is Welltory monthly?

Buyers report never seeing a monthly option at checkout. Welltory says the monthly plan is archived and now web-only. Monthly-priced in-app options were still listed on both App Stores on 29 July 2026, so the picture is not tidy. Budget for the $99 annual plan.

Is Welltory accurate?

Reviewers generally trust the raw HRV measurement and distrust the Stress, Energy and Health scores built on it. Users cross-checking against a chest strap say Welltory is the outlier.

How do I cancel Welltory?

If you bought through the App Store, cancel in Apple's subscription settings. On welltory.com, no cancel button usually means it is already off.

Is Welltory free?

Yes, with limits.

The free tier gives you one measurement a day and 5 of the 21 metrics, and clears history older than 30 days.
