Summary at a glance
Migraine Buddy's free tier already covers attack recording, trigger and medication tracking, automatic sleep recording, and the diary and MIR exports doctors ask for.
MBplus costs $89.99 a year, which the site puts at $7.49 a month, or $24.99 for two months.
What the money buys is weather tracking with a 7-day forecast, advanced reporting, AI-powered suggestions, coaching programs, the Good Days Guide, and pain and symptom intensity variation.
No published review credits a named MBplus feature with a changed result, so the upgrade rests on whether you want those features.
Migraine Buddy pulls in no wearable or health-app data beyond sleep, where Android users can connect Health Connect, and paying for MBplus does not change that.

Should You Pay for Migraine Buddy MBplus?
Stay free if you want to log attacks and export a report for your neurologist. The free tier already does that. Pay for MBplus if you want weather tracking, advanced reporting and the coaching programs on top. MBplus costs $89.99 a year, or $24.99 for two months migrainebuddy.com.
Nothing we read links a specific MBplus feature to a specific result for a real user.
Free users say they never felt the pull. One Google Play reviewer, answered by the developer in August 2026, wrote "I do not pay for premium membership. I have only ever used the free features" play.google.com.
So the upgrade is a bet on features you like the sound of.
The doctor-facing diary and MIR exports sit in the free tier. You do not need MBplus to hand your neurologist a report.
MBplus earns its price if you suspect weather sets off your attacks and you want the 7-day forecast and the Good Days Guide to work through.
The free tier, for most peopleFree already carries attack recording, trigger and medication tracking, automatic sleep recording and the diary and MIR exports doctors ask for. MBplus adds weather, advanced reporting, AI-powered suggestions and coaching programs. No source we read ties any of those to a better outcome, and subscribers who like MBplus still call $89.99 a year pricey.

Every check-in brings you closer to answers. Effortlessly build a clear picture of energy, mood, pain, and sleep over time — so you can see exactly what's improving, what's not, and feel confident you're doing the right things to feel better.
What Does the Migraine Buddy Free Tier Include?
Free covers customisable attack recording, trigger and medication tracking, automatic sleep recording, diary and MIR exports for doctors, community chat, and no ads.
The export is the part people keep. A Google Play reviewer says it fixed a habit they had struggled with for years: "This has made tracking SO much easier. I'm notoriously bad about tracking for my neurologist" play.google.com.
Healthify, the New Zealand Health App Library, reviewed the free version in June 2025 and gave it five stars. Its reviewing pharmacist described an "Exhaustive list of questions when logging a migraine, covering most clinically important migraine features" healthify.nz.
None of that sits behind a paywall.

MBplus adds weather tracking and a 7-day forecast, advanced reporting, AI-powered suggestions, coaching programs, the Good Days Guide, and pain and symptom intensity variation migrainebuddy.com.
Weather is the headline. If you suspect pressure or humidity swings start your attacks, the free app will not show you that.
Several MBplus features run on iOS only, including attack duration and the trigger recommender. And the report your doctor wants is already free, so upgrading is not how you unlock it.
Refunds run through Apple or Google, not through Migraine Buddy. The company's own billing answers say it cannot grant one.

The year costs less per month. The two-month plan lets you walk away faster. The Migraine Buddy site also shows a "save20" code for $20 off the yearly price.
Subscribers who rate it highly still flinch at the number. In an App Store review dated to July 2024 or earlier, one subscriber writes: "I do subscribe to the plus version but it's totally worth it to me even though I feel it's a bit pricey" apps.apple.com.
Trials bill through Apple or Google. Their rules allow the charge up to 24 hours before the trial ends, so cancel a day early if you do not want to be billed.
What Do Users Say About the Migraine Buddy Paywall?
The paywall itself draws little anger. Most complaints are about how the app works.
The loudest is isolation from the rest of your health data. The person who opened an April 2026 r/migraine thread went looking for alternatives: "While it certainly can help, it is really annoying to use and lacks the ability to sync with other health indicators" reddit.com. MBplus does not fix that.
A commenter on the same thread wanted a simpler app: "Migraine buddy is too complicated for me. I feel like someone had mentioned a simpler one a few months back" reddit.com.
The free feature people most want working is the sleep tracking. A Google Play reviewer, answered by the developer in August 2026, reports it going quiet: "If I don't open the app each night before I go to sleep, it doesn't activate to track my sleep. It's set to track but doesn't" play.google.com.

Should You Stay Free or Upgrade to MBplus?
Stay free if you log attacks and take the report to a neurologist. That is the job the free tier was built for.
Upgrade if weather is your suspected trigger. The 7-day forecast, the Good Days Guide and the coaching programs are the real reasons to pay. Take the two-month plan first if you are unsure. It costs more per month, and you find out in eight weeks.
The harder question is whether one app is enough.
Migraine Buddy handles migraines and nothing else. People who log heart rate, food or cycles in other apps have to type it all again here. That is why one r/migraine poster went to try Guava instead, and Bearable and Human Health cover multi-condition tracking the same way.
Keeping any diary beats keeping none. The author of a widely upvoted lessons post on r/migraine makes the point: "You can use an app (I use Migraine Buddy, but there are many). Do not rely only on your memory, our recollections can be inaccurate and malleable" reddit.com.

We have not paid for MBplus and we have not used it. This article reads published prices and public reviews.
Prices and feature lists come from Migraine Buddy's own MBplus page, read on 14 September 2026.
Sentiment comes from four places. The Apple App Store listing rates 4.8 out of 5 across 42,000 ratings, and we read 10 full-text reviews there apps.apple.com. Google Play rates 4.8 out of 5 across 66,900 reviews, and we read three of them carrying developer replies from July and August 2026 play.google.com. Healthify published an independent clinical review of the free version in June 2025. We also read 11 r/migraine threads, four of them less than a year old.
Trustpilot blocked us, so there is no Trustpilot evidence here. And no review we found credits a named MBplus feature with a changed outcome.
